As the summer sun starts to set a little earlier, it’s a good time to enjoy the seasonal weather during a night hike at Sodalis Nature Preserve.
Hannibal Parks & Recreation is offering at Night Hike through Sodalis Nature Preserve starting at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9 called “Twilight Transformations.”
Nature educator Gale Rublee leads the Parks & Recreation nature programs. She said, “Let’s explore nature’s nocturnal adaptations. Some flowers bloom at night to attract moths and lots of animals prefer to become more active as it gets dark. We humans also adjust to less light by enhancing our ‘night-time’ vision and other senses.”
Participants should meet at the parking lot at Sodalis Nature Preserve on Ely Street. The full program lasts about two hours and covers a 2-mile paved loop with a steep incline. Participants have the option to return sooner.
Nature programs are free but must be reserved online at www.hannibalparks.org
