Bats in Springtime Night Hike through Sodalis Nature Preserve
DATE AND TIME
03/21 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
When exactly do the bats start leaving the Lime Kiln Mine at Sodalis Nature Preserve and where do they go? It depends on several factors from outside air temperature, food supply and the stirring in their little bodies that Spring is arriving and it’s time to find their summer forest homes. If it’s a warm night, we might see some bats emerging from the mine openings to forage for insects or start their migrations. Meet at the shelter near the Sodalis Parking lot on Ely Street. The full program is about two hours and covers a 2-mile paved loop with a steep incline. Participants have the option to return sooner as desired.
Bird Walk 8 a.m. March 15 at Sodalis Nature Preserve. Bird walks will be the third Saturday of the month through autumn (weather permitting.) The walk will stay on the paved trails but may cover up to two miles. Rublee suggests downloading the Merlin app prior to the event to track birds by sound and bringing binoculars.
Programs are free and open to the public but participation is limited. Register for space at www.hannibalparks.recdesk.com/Community/Program

Scavenger Hunts
The Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department has developed Scavenger Hunts to encourage visitors to the Hannibal parks. Hannibal children, along with visitors to Hannibal, will have a chance to explore our parks in a different way. These free activities allow participants to learn more about Hannibal Parks and to earn a free treat from a local business in the process!
Here are the scavenger hunts available so far (check back for future additions).
