A longtime musician and now author will be signing books at 4 p.m. May 17 at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center.
Virgil Watts wrote the book “The Life of a Steel Player” with the help of his friends. He will be signing the books prior to the Spring Festival of Country Music, which will be 6 p.m. at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center.
Watts has played all over the country, after growing up in a small Oklahoma town. He performed on on the road in Texas, Oklahoma, Chicago and other Illinois towns, Wichita, Kansas and Missouri. He has played at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center and with the musicians that play there weekly at the Senior Adult Dances on Tuesdays from noon to 3 p.m.
Many of the musicians will be part of the performance Friday by Memory Lane, which includes Martin and Betty Miller, Harlon Lain, Wendell Glance, Sue Taylor and Gregg Cornelius along with special guests.
Admittance is free but donations will be accepted for the band. Food and drink concessions will be available from Curryville Christian School.
The Spring Festival of Country Music is sponsored by Hannibal Parks & Recreation. More information is available by calling 573-221-5682.
