Girls are included in this year’s September Jam. A free basketball clinic was able to secure enough volunteers to open it up to more players.

The third annual September Jam starts Sept. 8 at the Hannibal Parks & Recreation courts at Sixth Street and Warren Barrett Drive, which is called Norfolk & Southern Multi-Sports Park.

The clinic is for boys and girls in 3rd-6th grades and will run from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on the following dates:

  • 8
  • 15
  • 22
  • 29

The first 50 registrants will receive a free T-shirt and a $5 voucher at Smooth as Ice, which will set up a food truck at the first practice.

Hannibal basketball aficionados are promoting the sport by offering free instruction and coaching. Caleb Gosney said the goal is to encourage young players to develop their skills.

Gosney said he and his friends, some of which are on the Hannibal High School coaching staff, want to encourage youngsters to develop skills in basketball.

Registration isn’t necessary but notification of participants will help the organizers plan. Participants are asked to bring a basketball if possible.
