There were 725 rainbow trout, including five “lunkers,” released into Huckleberry Park Lake this morning. Shelby Lovelace, fishery biologist with Missouri Department of Conservation, said the trout were transported from Montauk Hatchery. He said the regular trout were 1 to 1.5 pounds and the lunkers were 4-5 pounds.
The following rules pertain to trout fishing:
• Trout must be returned to the water unharmed immediately after being caught Oct. 31-Jan. 31, 2025.
• Only artificial lures and unscented soft plastics may be used from Oct. 31-Jan. 31, 2025.
• The first day to keep trout is Feb. 1. You may fish catch and release with a Missouri fishing license but in order to keep trout you need a trout stamp regardless of age.
