Volunteers are needed to help maintain existing trails and build a new trail at Sodalis Nature Preserve.
The work will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 8. Martin Meyer is organizing the volunteer work.
Volunteers should meet at the shelter at Sodalis Nature Preserve and are asked to bring manual equipment such as shovels, rakes, hoes, loppers, hand saws, good gloves.
The trail will celebrate the memory of Hannah Wathen, who died in 2015. At her funeral, Bob Wathen, Hannah’s dad, shared an article of the work being done at Sodalis Nature Preserve to protect the bat population. It resonated deeply with him, that the loss of bats to the ecosystem was not overlooked and the loss of Hannah should not be overlooked. Suicide is the second leading cause of death to youth and young adults aged 10-24, and rates of death by suicide increased 52 percent between 2000 and 2021.
